Who is eligible to vote:
Every US citizen age 18 or older who has resided in the city or ward for 10 days before any election. If a person moves within this state later than 10 days before an election, they shall vote at his/her previous election district or ward. If a person is convicted of treason, a felony or bribery, they are not allowed to vote unless his/her civil rights are restored.

IN PERSON: Register to vote at the Clerk's Office, City Hall, 381 E. Main Street, Monday-Friday 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. AT THE POLLING PLACE ON ELECTION DAY: If you wish to register to vote at your polling place, you must bring proof that you have lived at your present location for 10 days preceding the election. The elector must provide proof of residence giving his or her complete name and address. Acceptable forms of proof of residence include a Wisconsin driver’s license, Wisconsin ID card, library card, check cashing or courtesy card issued by a merchant, real estate tax bill or receipt, a gas, electric or telephone service statement dated less than 90 days prior to the election.
BY MAIL (ABSENTEE BALLOT): TO OBTAIN AN ABSENTEE BALLOT, YOU MUST MAKE A REQUEST IN WRITING. Download the voter registration application by clicking on the link above, complete the form and mail it to: City Clerk, Stoughton City Hall, 381 E Main St., Stoughton, WI 53589. Registration by mail must be completed 20 days before an election. You are also required to submit a copy of acceptable proof of residence along with your application. Acceptable forms include a Wisconsin driver’s license, Wisconsin ID card, library card, check cashing or courtesy card issued by a merchant, real estate tax bill or receipt, a gas, electric or telephone service statement dated less than 90 days prior to the election. Special absentee voting application provisions apply to electors who are indefinitely confined to home or a care facility, in the military, hospitalized, or serving as a sequestered juror. If this applies to you, contact the municipal clerk of your municipality. You can also personally go to the clerk’s office of your municipality, complete a written application, and vote an absentee ballot.
Applications must be received no later than 5:00 p.m. on the Thursday before the election in order for an absentee ballot to be mailed to you.

Request an absentee ballot in person at the City Clerk's Office at City Hall. This can be done up until 5:00 p.m. on the day before the election.
